What People Don't Understand About AI (It's Not What You Think)
Everyone has an opinion about AI in 2026. Half the internet thinks it's going to replace every job. The other half tried ChatGPT once, got a weird answer, and wrote the whole thing off.
Both sides are missing the point. Completely.
The Problem With AI Inside Your Tools
Over the past two years, every productivity tool added AI features. Notion got AI blocks. ClickUp got AI assistants. Heptabase got AI summaries. And every single one of them felt... disconnected.
Why? Because the AI inside Notion only knows what's in Notion. The AI inside ClickUp only sees your ClickUp workspace. They have no context about the rest of your life, your other tools, or your broader goals.
It's like hiring an assistant who can only see one room in your house and asking them to organize your entire life.
NotebookLM Changed the Conversation
Google's NotebookLM was the first tool that shifted things. Instead of feeding AI random prompts, you could give it your actual documents. Now Gemini connects directly to NotebookLM. That matters. But it's still limited to Google's ecosystem.
MCPs Are the Real Breakthrough
Here's what most people still don't understand: the real power isn't AI features inside individual tools. It's AI connecting TO your tools from the outside.
MCP -- Model Context Protocol -- lets an AI model connect to external services. Not through copy-paste. Not through screenshots. Through direct, structured connections.
Right now, my Claude setup connects to: ClickUp, Heptabase, Gmail, Apple Notes, Todoist, Readwise, Miro, NotebookLM, and Zapier. One conversation. Full context across everything.
When I ask Claude a question about a project, it checks my actual ClickUp tasks, reads my Heptabase notes, scans relevant emails, and gives me an answer based on MY data.
Personal Context + Team Context
MCPs don't just work for personal tools. They work for team tools too. In our ICOR community, we're building the myICOR MCP. When a member connects, Claude gets their ICOR progress -- what courses they've completed, what tools they're using, what growth assignments they have. The AI gives advice based on where that specific person actually is in their journey.
Structure Before AI
My co-founder Paco and I met in 2022 inside an app called Mem. Great concept -- but no structure. AI without structure produces noise, not signal. That's exactly why ICOR exists. The methodology gives AI something to work with.
Specialized Tools Aren't Going Anywhere
MCPs don't replace specialized tools. ClickUp will still be your project management tool. What changes is how they connect. Instead of living in silos, they become nodes in a connected system. AI provides the connective tissue.
This is why I've always said: learn concepts, not specific tools. And now, with MCPs, the connections between those tools don't require you to be a programmer either.
2026 Is the Year for Everyone
The foundation matters more than ever. Not coding syntax. Not prompt engineering tricks. The foundational concepts of how to organize information and turn it into action. That's tool-agnostic. That's what survives every technology shift.
If you're ready to stop treating AI as a toy and start using it as the productivity layer it's meant to be, watch the full video above. Join the ICOR community. Your tools will change. Your system won't.
