In this video, I break down two common ways people use the Journal feature in Heptabase — and why I approach it differently. Most users create journal entries where they quickly reference a person or topic and jot down notes, which creates backlinks but often leads to fragmented context and messy searches.
Instead, I treat the actual card — like a person’s card — as the single source of truth. I add updates directly there, with simple date stamps inside the card. This way, the journal still works in the background via backlinks, but the real context stays where it belongs. It’s a cleaner, more scalable way to manage updates and insight across your knowledge system.
